Innovation vs Invention

Invention is the creation of a new product, process, or idea that did not   previously exist.

Innovation is the process of improving, adapting, or developing existing   products, processes, or ideas.

Both invention and innovation drive technological progress, economic   growth, and social development.

We were given this littlebits kit to innovate something fun. We then made this musical instrument called makey makey.

We were tasked to observe this plant and think of ways to help this plant.

Some questions I had in mind -

Is the plant feeling comfortable?

Does the plant need fertilizer?

Given that plants cannot communicate with us or express their needs or desires, this activity seems rather frivolous. As a result, it is not practical to rely on the plant itself to give us this information. However, we can ascertain what a plant needs by either keeping track of it over time, consulting an authority on agriculture, or talking to a specialized scientist in the area.

The Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a theory that describes the different needs that motivate human behavior. It is represented as a pyramid with five levels, where the lowest levels represent basic needs like food, water, and shelter, and the higher levels represent more complex needs like social connection, self-esteem, and personal growth. According to the theory, individuals must satisfy lower-level needs before they can move up to higher levels of needs.

Observation is a research technique used to gather data by watching and recording the behavior of individuals or groups in their natural setting. It involves three main components: what, how, and why.

An empathy map is a tool used to understand the needs and behaviors of a particular group or individual. It is a visual representation that includes four key components:

Seeing: This involves observing the subject and noting what they are doing, saying, and feeling.

Hearing: This involves listening to what the subject is saying, including their words, tone, and body language.

Thinking: This involves identifying the subject's thoughts, motivations, and concerns.

Doing: This involves noting the subject's actions and behaviors, including what they are doing and why.

A persona is a tool used in marketing, product design, and user experience research to represent a typical user or customer. It is a fictional character that is created based on research and data to help guide decision-making and create products or services that meet the needs of the target audience.

A Point of View (POV) statement is a concise and clear sentence that expresses a problem or opportunity from the perspective of a particular user or customer. It helps teams to define and focus on a specific problem to solve, and guides the development of solutions that meet the needs of the target audience.

You can't change what happened. But you can still change what will happen.
